Who is stealing the peacocks of Conway, FL?

In the heart of Conway, Florida, just a few minutes southeast of downtown Orlando, the longtime residents of the otherwise peaceful Robinsdale subdivision are being kidnapped off the streets in broad daylight, and no one knows why.

Granted, the residents being spirited away are in fact peacocks. A flock of these colorful, regal birds have called this sleepy corner of Florida their home for decades, enjoying a mostly harmonious existence with their human neighbors. Given safe harbor to live, love, and raise their families, the birds have thrived in this small community. Their population swelled into near triple digits… that is of course until late autumn of last year when, along with the first chill winds of winter, a mysterious red pickup truck blew into town.

Local residents reported that the truck parked in front of a home where groups of the unsuspecting birds had gathered and that an unidentified passenger exited the vehicle brandishing a large shrimp net. The man in question then began to chase down the terrified animals on foot. Disregarding private property and any sense of human decency, the unidentified man trampled through yards and crisscrossed the small community gathering as many peacocks as he could until his appetite sated, the man returned to his getaway car and disappeared without a trace.

Though law enforcement was called and the incident reportedly under investigation, it seems that there have been no developments or leads as to who these kidnappers are or where the peafowl might be.

Digging a bit deeper, we’ve found a possible connection to a similar incident that happened 2 years ago in yet another peacock safe haven: Coconut Grove, Florida. It appears that another mysterious man was caught on a surveillance camera exiting a red pickup truck with a large net. The man, garbed in red and ceaselessly smoking a cigarette, can be seen brutally chasing down and capturing one of the local peacocks before fleeing the scene.

We must now ask ourselves, who are these men? Is there a connection between these incidents? Where are the peacocks now? And, finally, why were they taken?
